Welcome to PrestwichBowls.co.uk!
Next Meeting:6th July 2009 at 8:30PM
It is with great sorrow that I have to announce the death of our League Treasurer, Arthur Knott. Arthur died on the morning of
May 8th of a massive heart attack. There was an overwhelming attendance at the funeral with the bowling community
turning up in numbers to say farewell to Arthur.
Big Time Bowls Comes to Prestwich
The inaugural Prestwich BC Open comes to a conclusion on Saturday May 30th with some of the biggest names in crown green
bowls gracing the green at Prestwich Cricket, Tennis and Bowling Club on Heys Road. There has been a strong field competing
for the £1200 prize fund with some high profile entries including Dave Jackson, winner of this year’s Spring Waterloo,
current Bridlington Festival champion Robbie Fitzpatrick and New Brighton Classic winner Chris Barton.
The final eight draw is Gareth Gwilliam v Robbie Fitzpatrick, Danny Beeby v Paul Hawker, Chris Barton v Ian Turrell, David Walker v Jim Derby.
Local bowlers will be familiar with two names in that list; Ian Turrell and Jim Derby have played in the Prestwich League for many years
before stepping up a grade to the Premier League. The practice starts at 1:30 with the quarter finals starting at 2:00pm.
The bar will be open from the start with a BBQ and raffle also on hand. It’s a great opportunity for bowlers to see how some of
the best in the game handle a green that they’ve played on in local leagues and to see what they can aspire to.
Your support is very welcome and would help the competition to become a permanent fixture in the bowling diary.
